DOCUMENTARY SIGNS
Embracing the modern concept of smartphone photography, Signs, is a long term iPhone documentary project that looks at the cultural and social phenomena of roadside birthday banners, which has been a tradition throughout the Gwendraeth Valley for almost half a century.
Celebrating landmark Birthdays from eighteen to sixty plus, these signs come in all shapes and sizes on all kinds of materials. They can be little brown boards or they can be enormous multicoloured sheets of fabric. Like little gems, they can sometimes be found around the valley hanging anywhere from buildings, trees, hedgerows or gates tops, lamp posts, bridges, roundabouts, and bus stops. These signs will sometimes even be seen clinging to other signs. Like an egg hunt these are fascinating spectacles waiting to be sought.
